My Summer Love – Poem to Support Bushfire Relief

My Summer Love‘ is a poem in response to the Australian Bushfires. If you have donated to support Bushfire relief, send me your evidence and details to receive this poem!

Australia is currently suffering the worst bushfire season in recorded history. 15 million hectares of land have been ruined, a conservative number of 1 billion animals have perished and 1000s of homes destroyed and dozens of lives lost to these flames.

These places need your support. If you can, please consider donating at these, or any other Australian Bushfire service, to help support people in need through this humanitarian crisis.

This is not an exhaustive list, but these websites show you different places you could donate to:

Reflections on the Extra Life Charity Fundraiser – Raising $655 AUD ($450USD)

Extra Life has passed once again and as a community, in total have raised $655 AUD (which translates to $450 USD) over the 24 hours of the live stream!

24 hours, two separate stream events (Dungeons and Dragons + Video Game Live Stream), over 20 donations and dozens of viewers! Thank you to everyone who tuned in!

Those who donated $20 will receive the copy of ‘Bubbles’ by the 21st of December! Just finalising some sections throughout the next week and a bit.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated and donated!

Some of my thoughts:

  • Dungeons and Dragons was super fun. My group was super awesome, shout out to Nick, Mustafa, Jeremy, Edgar, and Cameron for playing super fun characters and engaging with the narratives. The story also has ramification for my home campaign.
  • We had one of the biggest donations through the last 4 years I’ve been doing Extra Life, of $75 USD, which is amazing! Raising $450USD was no easy feat and I could not have done it without so many supportive people in my life!
  • I had a blast playing video games with my friends and having some awesome bants! Im always inspired by how many people pop in, play games and get to talking around this event!

I have done two fundraisers this year and it has been a blast organising and supporting these charities!

Toast’s Update – Shortlisted, Fundraiser and Articles!

Hi Friends, a few cool new things happening in the next month or so!

  • I’ve just been shortlisted for Penguin Random House Write It fellowship!!! I am submitting the full manuscript on the 20th of May! A big few weeks of writing and editing ahead. I am so excited and grateful for this opportunity!
  • From 23rd to the 26th of May, I will be doing a fundraiser called ‘Pen2Paper’ for Story factory where I will be raising $300 to help students gain access to the agency’s creative writing workshops! Support me here!
I also have been interviewed by Arnold B. Spencer. It was great time and he asked some really interesting question. I talk about my poetry, Dungeons and Dragons and why I drink water while I write!
  • Autumn, That Bastard is almost complete! However, due to the intense editing I am doing both for the manuscript and university, I will be delaying the next few poems until end of May/beginning of April. Grey House will be released next week with an updated release schedule.
  • I have contributed and created an article about Writing Queer characters in the Writing Community Newsletter! Check it out here and subscribe to it!
  • I have just finished and sent off my article for D.I.R.G.Ezine. The zine will be ready for publication in the coming months so stay tuned!

Thank you to all of those who have kept up and been engaged with me throughout this time! May will be a slower month for content in terms of blog posts, but many big things are happening!

Stay awesome!

Pen2paper Fundraiser Challenge! Donate to Help Young Voices!

I will be doing a fundraiser in May to support young voices!

I discovered the wonders of creative and imaginative writing when I was in Year 4. It changed my life to gain the ability to start telling wondrous tales, about the adventures my little toy figurines would go on – even if it was to myself. I appreciate what Story Factory (a non-for-profit creative writing centre for disadvantaged youth) does and see first hand the improvements in young peoples voices from the inner-city and Western Sydney area.

Please support my goal of $300!

I will be writing 6 poems from 6pm on the 23rd of May to 6pm the 26th of May in this Pen2Paper challenge. All poems will become available as a pretty PDF for donors as thank you to anyone that contributes $15 or more!

Please consider donating here!

Thank you to my first donor, the wonderful James Teng!

We Need to Address Racism – What Happened at Christchurch and to the Muslim Community

First thing, I would like to extend my thoughts and support to the Muslim/Islamic community and towards our global friends in New Zealand. If anyone needs some support after this event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local support services. I also extend this post as an invitation for anyone affected to message me on my social media or email if they need to discuss what happened. (Those should be in the side bar or bottom bar)

Second thing, please consider donating to support the victims here:

Every racist persons needs to be held responsible for the creation of this tragedy. Every man, woman and smart-ass person in the comment sections on Facebook need to be held accountable for what happened to the Muslim community. Every politician who victim blames needs to be exposed for the supremacist they are.

Although censorship is always a tricky area, contributing to knowledge on this disgusting event by watching his video or reading the work does nothing but exalt radical right-wing ideologies. Please, do not expose yourself to it. Do not give this horrid creature what he wants.

Instead, support our Muslim friends, our Muslim children, our Muslim family, workmates, students, religious leaders and even strangers of our community. I am very much invested in the concept of Ubuntu (“I am because we are”) and since I found out what happened, I have been hurt and shocked.

For people who say this happens to other countries regularly, I am hurt for them as well. But the reason I speak about this more is because I am accustomed to western society. This happened in the western world, in a country so small and so close to where I live. In terms of number of deaths, it was equal to 3,125 people if the same percentage was in America.

And please in this distressing time, take care of yourself. Right now, I am fuelled by anger towards how this could have happened. Because I know how. Racism created this terrorism. There is no other way of putting it. Xenophobia, ignorance and hatred has been stained onto the Islamic community, unjustly! A community that I share knowledge and culture with has been traumatised by the acts of terror.

Don’t forget that racism created this terrorism.
